The Bottelary wine farm route circles around the rolling Bottelary Hills. Many of the earliest Cape Dutch houses are to be found here, as the settlers made their way from Cape Town to the interior. Meerlust, Zevenwacht and Neethlingshof are great examples od the early Cape Dutch style.
ZEVENWACHT
This magnificent piece of architecture has graced the landscape since 1793. Originally named seven fountains, the name was changed when it was combined with the neighbouring farm Langverwacht. An architect's dream in its situation behind a small lake and in front of a hill of wine farms.

MEERLUST
Dating back to 1776 the house at Meerlust wine farm was one of the very first Cape Dutch homes to be built. Of particular interest to architects is the Dovecot, which was apparently used to host cock fights centuries ago. The farm continues to produce superb wines, and A small museum in the tasting room enlightens sightseeing tourists.

VREDENBURG
Baroque style Cape Dutch architecture dating to 1789 and one of the earliest Cape Dutch farm houses to be built. The gable is very elaborate typical of the baroque style. The wine farm is currently known as Vredenheim with a game farm is also home to wild and cultivated animals, a great Cape attraction.
